I put AI systems into companies whose product is expert judgment.

I took over as CEO of Web.com in 1999 and built its domain registration and hosting business into a top-20 provider worldwide. In 2004 I acquired the company in a leveraged buyout, and in 2005 I sold it to Interland. I have been a full-stack engineer since 1995, have worked with AI and machine learning since 2018, and have spent more than twenty years working with owners and leadership teams. I wrote Goal Boss: The Art and Science of Getting Stuff Done and Judgment Day: How to Lead When AI Breaks Everything.

Today that work runs through Goal Boss, which puts AI systems into private-equity-owned companies where the product is expert judgment, live and measured within 90 days. I do the build and the people work myself.

On weekends I build things that probably should not exist: a working roller coaster, a walk-in geodesic sphere, and now a single-seat passenger drone. Commercial pilot. I care about shipping small, real tools instead of AI theater.
